Frequently asked questions

What is Roliando?

Roliando is a virtual tabletop (VTT) for playing and running RPGs online: living character sheets, live or play-by-post campaigns, tactical combat, a 5e-compatible system (SRD) extended by community modules, and a Builder for creating any system. All in the browser, nothing to install.

How do I start?

Roliando is open and free. Hit “Sign in”, create your account with Discord or your email (magic link, no password) and you're in. No downloads.

Do I need a card to play?

No. Playing and running games is free forever and there are no ads. Legend GM is optional. It supports the project and, in return, gives you the full table (the 3D view, broadcast for OBS, teams, unlimited voice and installing Foundry systems) and lifts the creation caps.

Which RPG systems can I play?

The 5e-compatible system in both of its editions (2014 and 2024), with the SRD content the community extends through modules, and any system built with the Builder or published on the Workshop.

How far does it automate the 5e rules?

It automates them end to end. Attacks are checked against AC and damage is applied by type with resistances, immunities and vulnerabilities; area saves reach every creature caught and are rolled by their owner; reactions like Shield appear on the deciding player's screen; concentration asks for its save on taking damage; and creatures use their spells, recharges and legendary actions. Does the map have terrain and elevation?

Yes. You paint terrain on the map itself (hills, pits, daises, ravines) with a height in feet, and tokens rise and fall with it. Climbing costs movement, falling deals damage on landing and a shove can send someone over the edge. It works with multi-floor maps and, with Legend GM, shows in three dimensions.

Can I create my own RPG system?

Yes, without programming: define fields and formulas, resources with maximums, checkboxes, perks with real effects, classes and levels, and design the sheet with tabs by dragging widgets. Then you can publish it free on the Workshop.

Can I bring what I have in Foundry, Roll20 or other tables?

Yes. A Foundry world comes in from a single .zip, with its scenes, walls, doors, lights, regions, characters and journals, and with Legend GM you install its systems and modules (v9 to v14) to play them at the table with no server. Also .dd2vtt/.uvtt maps, Dungeon Alchemist scenes, Dungeondraft packs, characters from sheet sites and other tables, and Roll20 sheets in their own code. Can I use it to stream the game live?

Yes, with Legend GM. Broadcast gives a clean feed for OBS and one link per element (3D dice, party, turns, chat, lower third, crit alerts) to place as layers on a transparent background. The links work without signing in and see the table as a player does: they never show hidden things or the GM's secret rolls. The guide is at roliando.com/en/guides/emision.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Roliando runs entirely in the browser, on desktop, phone and tablet.
