Play-by-post
Discord-style text play: channels, off-role chat, speaking as your character, dice and notifications, and the GM's management tools (economy, NPCs, ambience).
Some tables don't play with voice and a map. Roliando's play-by-post mode is text-based roleplay in the style of Discord: themed channels, an always-visible chat, and your character speaking in first person. It suits playing in short bursts without lining up schedules.
A campaign is marked as play-by-post when you create it or from its settings.
The view: Discord-style channels
The main screen is a list of Channels on the left and the chat on the right, always visible. The tabs at the top are:
| Tab | What it is |
|---|---|
| Channels | The roleplay threads. Each one is a scene, a place, or a topic. |
| Off-game chat | Out-of-character talk: questions, coordination, meetups. |
| Players | Who is at the table and their character sheet. |
| Management (GM) | The director's tools. |
Writing in a channel
In a channel you write as your character: you pick the speaker (your character, or your out-of-character voice) and your message goes out with their name and portrait. The GM can speak as any of their NPCs.
- Creating channels: the GM opens whatever they need (an inn, a forest, a council…).
- Dice in roleplay: you can roll inside the channel; the result stays in the thread for everyone.
- Notifications: when someone writes where you take part, you get an alert that takes you straight to the message.
The backpack and the character
Each player has their linked character sheet and their backpack of items. You can roleplay with your character even if you're the GM (it shows up as a speaker option), handy for support PCs.
Management (GM)
The Management tab gathers the director's tools, in sections:
- Economy: the shop and the table's money.
- NPCs: create non-player characters with their statblock, to speak through them and drop them on the map. (GM only.)
- Ambience: music and atmosphere to set the mood for scenes.
Starting without a sheet
Even if you don't have a character yet, you enter the campaign through a lobby: you can create or link your character, use the off-game chat, and read the rules in the meantime. It's a good moment to prepare the sheet with the GM before jumping into the roleplay.
